2019 June 24, Mr. Ratnarajan I write to tell you, as an 85 year old, how much I appreciate your having operated on my eye to remove a cataract on the 19th so successfully that I can watch TV without glasses, I can almost read a newspaper comfortably without glasses and because daylight is now so bright I have had to fish out my sun glasses which I haven't used for a number of years. I am so appreciative of you and your backup staff for looking after me so well; Including especially playing for me my favorite Streisand numbers. Would you please also thank your back up staff of the brilliant operation you did for me in in September last; Natasha, Barbara and Iryna. We are so lucky in East Grinstead to have the best hospital in the country with the best staff in the country here on our door step. I could not possible have had a better surgeon or have been cared for in a more personal and efficient way should I have paid a fortune for private treatment.Thank you, thank you, thank you! Roi

I cannot speak highly enough of Mr Ratnarajan. From the outset he was obviously highly competent and professional. He explained clearly the nature of my condition and the treatment he proposed and I felt to be in the presence of someone I could trust completely. This trust was well placed and the surgery, involving the removal of a cataract and the insertion of two stents to help ameliorate my glaucoma was, mercifully, painless. He explained the procedure at each stage of the operation, the outcome of which has amazed me. Mr Ratnarajan is engaging, warm and enthusiastic about the specialism in which he is expert. I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend you place something as precious as your sight in his more than capable hands.

I have just had cataract surgery on both eyes performed by Mr Gok Ratnarajan at the McIndoe Centre East Grinstead. The operations were performed just 2 weeks apart. Although I was very nervous about having the procedures, Mr Ratnarajan and his team put me at ease from the very beginning and answered any questions or worries I might have had with kindness and professionalism. The surgeries were both painless and straightforward and I am now able to both read, drive and see clearly without glasses which is truly life changing! I cannot recommend him highly enough and would like to thank him for his care and dedication in making sure everything went so well.

On arrival at the unit a member of staff took me to my room and before the operation the nurses were very caring and made me feel relaxed when administering all the drops. Dr Ratnarajan fully explaining the surgery for the cataract and drainage stents for my glaucoma and when I arrived in the operating theatre he was very reassuring. Throughout the operation he quietly talked me through the procedure and when he needed me to look or turn my head in a different position. He and all the theatre staff throughout the operation worked in a very professional and caring way. After the operation my eye was protected with a shield and then I was taken back to my room in a wheelchair. A nurse checked that all was well and arranged for me to have some sandwiches and a drink . Later the nurse brought the drops I needed to take post op and carefully explained them. After a short rest I came home. Once home I had no post op problems.

Having an operation on your eye can be a stressful experience, especially for older people who are suffering from cataracts and glaucoma. One is already experiencing the effects of vision loss and unsteadiness. This distrust of your ability to deal with everyday life can undermine your confidence and make you vulnerable. Dr. Ratnarajan is kind, has a warm smile, and genuinely cares for his patients and shares with us the remarkable event of renewed sight. He is gentle, efficient and takes command in the operating theatre which helps one endure this strange procedure and settle the nerves. The demand for surgery is however so great that one can be left with the imbalance of only having one eye "done' for 6-7 months as I have been told I will have to. One can adjust to many things, and there's no question that there is an improvement already with one eye done. But one could wish that people could be processed within the 2-3 month limit I was told I would have to wait when I received my first operation. This is not a reflection on Dr. Ratnarajan or his expertise but on our overwhelming need for NHS services.
